Strange Happenings
Now that I look back over the years, I have had many
experiences. I am not ashamed to tell people about them, I present them
for one's own interpretation. I am a somewhat cynical person, somewhat
educated, and I know that when I tell my stories I sound like a crackpot
to a lot of people. I don't know what I believe for sure. I believe that
there is a strong possibility that I have manufactured this with my own
imagination but the experiences I've had have felt so real. I just don't
know.
I was fascinated by ANYTHING unexplained in my childhood. I checked out
every book on UFO's, the Loch Ness Monster and Sasquatch in my school
library again and again. I don't remember anything happening in my youth.
We lived in the suburbs, surrounded by other homes. So I grew up with a
fertile imagination, but when I was a child I mostly remember being scared
that a Sasquatch was going to peep in my window and see me in my
underwear! EEEK!
When everything started really happening was when I was in my junior year
of high school and I moved out to the country with my parents. We moved to
a small town in Oregon, at the foot of the Coburg hills.
The first experience was one of night paralysis. I woke up, looked up at
the ceiling of my room and saw some sort of apparatus with a lens in
front of my face. That is the only time in my life I can remember that I
was too scared to scream. I just closed my eyes again and waited 'til
morning.
Numerous other experiences followed. All at my parents house. It's a
creepy place. All windows, sitting alone in the middle of a field. One
night after I had moved to Eugene (about 10 miles away) I was driving back
into town with a friend and I had to swerve to avoid what I saw in my
lane. It was a section of a cow carcass, from clavicle to the last
ribs lying end up in the road. Skinned. Went by too fast to see if there
was any blood. My friend completely missed it, she was looking at me
because I was freaking out.
Another night I saw a ball of sparks in a tree. I looked for a burned spot
the next day but there was none.
One night I woke to see a figure standing next to my bed. It was my mom.
I don't know what the hell she was doing, but she was looking out my
bedroom window at my car, and said, "I thought I saw something purple
getting into your car?!" What is that supposed to mean? I think my mom
may have had some experiences, but she never talks about it. She gets
REALLY scared at night sometimes, and turns all the lights on. And my mom
is the most rational, logical person ever.
Also another time 6 plain white vans followed me off the freeway on my way
up there. They didn't come to the house or anything, just drove by.
Then I moved out of my parent's house and into the city. I don't remember
much from then, I really think things don't happen when I'm in the city.
Then I moved to Southern California. I lived in the University of
California at Irvine trailer park at the time and I remember going
outside and lying down in the grass and floating up in a column of light.
The next experience was the one I described earlier, where I was telling
my boyfriend not to open his eyes. I have had one since then the one
with the lawnmower sound. There wasn't much to it, I just awoke and was
paralyzed, and heard the sound. It became so loud that that's all there
was.
Oh, my god! I just remembered something from my childhood while I was
typing this. I remember one night, I must have been about 5 or 6? I
thought I heard someone bouncing a basketball loudly and continuously so I
couldn't sleep. I asked my mom the next day, and she said there was no one
playing basketball.
Well, that's about all I can think of. I like to make light of these
experiences, and have a running joke with one of my friends at least! I
saw him after having not seen him for a while, and he was like, "So how
goes the UFO stuff?" and while I was telling him the story, we saw a light
traveling in the sky suddenly change direction, in a way a plane or
helicopter cannot! We laughed. It was like, "How goes the UFO's? Look!
There's one now!" But I do feel irrationally afraid at night sometimes,
like absolute terror. I have always had insomnia, and I wake up at 3am
almost every night. This is happening now. I don't know why its 3am. I
don't know. I am a strange person in general, so this all fits in.
I am not a religious person, I was never taken to church as a child. I
believe that Jesus existed, and I believe the bible is a complex and
amazing document but I cannot call myself a Christian. My spirituality is
something I have concocted myself, scientific with the belief that
everything that happens is balanced by something else. I like what I've
read about the Native American religions, those sort of beliefs appeal to
me. My parents are educated and have always been interested in strange
phenomena. My dad more so than my mom. My dad was really into Star Wars. I
have never discussed these things with them. They still live in that
house. One thing that is kind of strange about me is that when I dream, a
lot of the time I dream about house interiors, in absolutely PAINFUL
architectural detail. Bumps in the floor, cracks in the floor, what kind
of hinges are on the door. I don't think I've been to any of these houses.
I don't know if it has anything to do with anything. But I do.
